Ben Macfarland has spent the last 16 years focused on the acquisition, development, financing, repositioning and management of owner operated real estate assets including self-storage (since 2006), parking, student housing, senior living, and single-family home portfolios. Mr. Macfarland’s track record has identified market dynamics, implemented his investment strategy, built out a team and executed on his vision. To date Mr. Macfarland has invested in ~$2bn of real estate investments as Principal. Storage Rentals of America is his third platform created around an investment strategy in a specific industry (in addition to parking & student housing). Mr. Macfarland holds a BS in Real Estate from Florida State University and an MBA in Finance from American University. Mr. Macfarland is a member of the Real Estate Roundtable in Washington, DC. Mr. Macfarland and his wife Christina have four children, live in West Palm Beach, Florida, and are actively involved with the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties and the Flagler Museum.
Christopher DeVaughn is the Executive Director of Business Development for BMC Real Estate. Christopher DeVaughn has spent over a decade focused on fundamentally improving the independent real estate sponsor business model and optimizing how the acquisitions function is executed. Christopher has executed on over 2,400 units of multifamily acquisitions and established his own hospitality investment strategy toward the end of the 2010s. Before relocating to South Florida to join BMC, he spent 3 years at RLJ Development (now known as RLJ Lodging Trust as a Public REIT) in Bethesda, MD as the company deployed its 3rd Fund ($1.3 billion). After 2 years in project management, he then worked directly for the CFO as an analyst through the firm’s IPO process. Christopher joined BMC in the fall of 2011. At BMC, he leads the process of building the company’s deal sourcing and co-sponsor business model, as well as identifying and helping to secure strategic partners. Prior to his professional experience, Christopher received a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. Here, he spent his summers interning with Corcoran Real Estate Group and Corcoran Sunshine New Development Organization in New York.
